While Penn State’s new staff looks to begin re-building the 2027 class and is seeking their first commitment to the 2027 cycle among re-recruiting those who decommitted at the time of the firing of the previous coach, they have made plenty of in-roads.
Among those many in-roads, has been a start on the 2028 class and the Nittany Lions locked down their first commitment of that class on Saturday.
In-state defensive back Deonte Flemings committed to the program following his visit to State College.
Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and West Virginia had also offered the defender, but he committed to Penn State just eight days after his official offer came in from the new Penn State staff.
Terry Smith was a key coach in his recruitment and had been in contact with him for nearly a year prior to the offer.
Flemings, like much of the 2028 class, is currently not ranked but expected to be in the four-star range and a top-10 player in Pennsylvania come signing day.
He appears likely to take on a leadership role for the 2028 class as an early commitment who will look to help secure other commitments.
