Philadelphia is giving one of its greatest sports legends a new home.
The bronze statue of Joe Frazier will be relocated from South Philadelphia to the grounds of the Philadelphia Museum of Art this spring, following unanimous approval from the city’s Art Commission.
The move places Frazier at the base of the iconic museum steps, the same area long associated with Rocky Balboa. The Rocky statue will be moved to the top of the steps as part of a museum exhibit, opening space for Frazier’s tribute below.
A North Philadelphia native and former heavyweight champion, Frazier’s new location gives him greater visibility while spotlighting his real-life legacy alongside Philly’s most famous fictional fighter.
City officials say the relocation ensures visitors learn about the true champion behind Philadelphia’s boxing history.
