A Slovak hockey fan’s Olympic trip came to an abrupt end this week after he was arrested in Italy while traveling to support his national team at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Italian authorities detained the 44-year-old man in Milan after discovering he was wanted in connection with a series of shop thefts dating back to 2010. Police acted on a long-standing warrant once the fan checked into a local guesthouse ahead of Slovakia’s opening men’s hockey game.

The arrest was carried out by Italy’s Carabinieri police force, and the man was transferred to San Vittore Prison, where he is expected to serve the remaining portion of his sentence, just under a year.

As for the game, Slovakia upset Finland, 4-1.

What was meant to be a fun trip to watch elite international hockey instead became a reminder of you do the crime, you do the time!
