A potential reunion between the Philadelphia Phillies and Rhys Hoskins reportedly had support from inside the clubhouse.

According to WIP’s Devan Kaney, sources say Bryce Harper recently advocated for the Phillies to add more right-handed power and a player who could bring added “emotional edge” and swagger to the roster. Harper reportedly suggested president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski explore a reunion with Hoskins, who remains a free agent.

Kaney reports this all occurred within the last week.

Hoskins is said to be open to returning to Philadelphia to “finish the job,” according to the report. However, after kicking the tires on the idea, Dombrowski ultimately decided Hoskins is not a fit for the current roster construction.

Hoskins, 32, spent six seasons with the Phillies from 2017–2022 and was a key contributor during the club’s 2022 World Series run. His bat spike in the NLDS became one of the defining images of that postseason, cementing his status as both a power threat and emotional catalyst.

Still, the roster fit is complicated.

Harper is now entrenched at first base, while Kyle Schwarber primarily fills the designated hitter role. In short, there was no where for Hoskins to play.

While a reunion appears unlikely for now, the report highlights Harper’s desire for more right-handed thump — and more edge — as the Phillies continue chasing another championship.
