Former Phillies slugger Rhys Hoskins is nearing a deal with the Cleveland Guardians, according to multiple reports.

Hoskins is expected to sign a minor-league contract with an invitation to big-league Spring Training, giving him a chance to compete for Cleveland’s Opening Day roster. While the agreement has not yet been officially announced, Hoskins was reportedly seen in the Guardians’ clubhouse, signaling the move is close to final.

The move comes a few days after it was reported the Phillies kicked the tires on a Hoskins reunion but ultimately passed.

The veteran first baseman/DH spent the past two seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers after a lengthy run with the Philadelphia Phillies. Known for his right-handed power, Hoskins could provide Cleveland with a low-risk offensive upgrade if he earns a roster spot.
