The Philadelphia Phillies are proceeding cautiously with one of their top prospects, as Aidan Miller continues to deal with recurring lower back soreness that has sidelined him early in spring training.

Miller has yet to appear in Grapefruit League action, and the ball club is prioritizing long-term health over rushing him back into games. Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski acknowledged the situation carries some concern.

“There’s a little concern because it has reoccurred,” Dombrowski said. “We want to make sure we take care of it the right way and not push him too quickly.”

The issue reportedly stems from tightness in Miller’s lower back, similar to discomfort he experienced late last season. Imaging has not revealed structural damage, but the setback was enough for the club to temporarily shut him down from full baseball activities.

Miller, 21, described the feeling as more tightness than sharp pain.

“It just got super tight,” Miller said. “It’s frustrating, but I’ve got to stay positive and keep working. I’m just trying not to let my mind spiral and focus on getting better each day.”

The former first-round pick has continued conditioning and strength work while gradually ramping up baseball activity. There is currently no timetable for his return to game action, and it remains unclear whether he’ll be ready for the start of the minor league season.

For now, the Phillies are emphasizing patience.

With Miller viewed as a key part of the organization’s future, the focus is ensuring this back issue doesn’t become a lingering problem heading into 2026 and beyond.
