The Philadelphia Flyers made a notable move ahead of the NHL trade deadline, sending winger Bobby Brink to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for defenseman David Jiricek.
Brink, 24, had carved out a role in Philadelphia’s young forward group, but the deal signals the Flyers’ continued effort to reshape their roster as the rebuild progresses. By moving Brink, the Flyers addressed a position of need on the blue line while dealing from an area of depth at winger.
Jiricek, a former first-round pick (6th overall) in the 2022 NHL Draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets, has split time between the NHL and AHL this season. The 6-foot-4 right-shot defenseman appeared in 25 NHL games this year without recording a point, while posting 10 points (2 goals, 8 assists) in 24 games in the AHL.
The 22-year-old was acquired by Minnesota last season from Columbus in a major trade package that included defenseman Daemon Hunt and multiple draft picks. Now, the Flyers will look to unlock Jiricek’s upside as a young, big-bodied defenseman who could develop into part of the organization’s long-term core.
