What took so long?
The Penn State basketball program has been a mess for decades and has seemed stuck in rebuild after rebuild after the team lost Micah Shrewsberry to Notre Dame following a March Madness run several years back.
If only there was a great basketball mind associated with the basketball program.
Oh, right, alumni Calvin Booth was the GM for the Denver Nuggets when they built a team that won the NBA Championship.
Now, Booth will reportedly be joining the program once again.
Particularly with the advent of NIL and then with Booth being removed as the GM in Denver, its a wonder he wasn’t brought in earlier.
Booth should give the program not only more active alumni around the program that recruits may recognize (from playing and being a GM), but a basketball mind that can certainly help identify players and manage NIL just like he managed the cap in the NBA.
It seems a long overdue move to make a step forward to helping improve the program after a dead-last B1G finish of 3-16, albeit with a team that only had two players returning that had played real minutes last season and one other transfer in addition to a ton of freshman, including several from outside the US.
