The Philadelphia Flyers had a rough night against the New York Rangers on Monday, falling 6–2. After the loss, Flyers captain Sean Couturier didn’t sugarcoat his assessment of the team’s effort.
Couturier specifically pointed to the lack of support in front of goaltender Dan Vladar.
“(Dan) Vladar has battled hard for us all year, won us big games, and we pissed away a game here tonight in front of him. Didn’t help him at all. We were just awful.”
The Rangers jumped on the Flyers early, scoring three first-period goals before extending the lead to 6–1 late in the second period. The Flyers managed goals from Matvei Michkov and Couturier, but the game was largely out of reach by that point.
For Couturier, the frustration centered around the Flyers’ inability to limit mistakes and support their goaltender.
The captain’s blunt assessment underscored a frustrating night for the Orange and Black, one that left little doubt about the team’s performance.
