The Philadelphia Eagles have reportedly reached a one-year agreement with tight end Dallas Goedert that helps the team avoid a significant salary cap issue.
Goedert’s previous deal was set to void, which would have triggered roughly $20 million in dead money on Philadelphia’s 2026 cap if the Eagles allowed him to walk. Instead, the sides agreed to a one-year contract worth approximately $7 million, converting what could have been a major dead cap hit into a manageable salary for a starting tight end.
The move is a classic piece of salary cap maneuvering by Eagles general manager Howie Roseman. Rather than carry a massive charge for a player no longer on the roster, the Eagles keep Goedert in place while maintaining flexibility for the future.
Goedert remains one of Jalen Hurts’ most reliable targets and should continue to play a key role in the offense. However, the short-term nature of the deal also leaves the door open for Philadelphia to address the tight end position in the NFL Draft.
