After 13 seasons in the NFL, veteran cornerback Darius Slay has announced his retirement, bringing an end to a memorable run that included five seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Acquired in a 2020 trade with the Detroit Lions, Slay quickly became a cornerstone of the Eagles’ secondary and one of the defense’s most respected leaders. Known as “Big Play Slay,” he earned three Pro Bowl selections during his time in Philadelphia while routinely matching up against opposing teams’ top wide receivers.
Slay’s tenure in Philadelphia was highlighted by the Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX championship run, where the veteran corner played a key role in a defense that helped deliver the franchise’s second Lombardi Trophy.
Across his Eagles career, Slay recorded nine interceptions, 56 pass breakups, and multiple momentum-shifting defensive plays that solidified his reputation as one of the league’s premier cover corners.
For Eagles fans, Slay’s legacy will be remembered for leadership, swagger, and the big plays that helped bring another championship to Philadelphia.
