Howie Roseman just cannot help himself.

On Wednesday, the Eagles GM did two things he loves: complete a trade and acquire a quarterback.

It seems the Eagles will be bringing on veteran Andy Dalton for the 2026 season in exchange for a seventh-round pick.

The veteran QB carries a $4 million cap hit this season.

If the team were to release him/he doesn’t make the roster he’s guaranteed $2 million of that.

The move will bring more questions about if the Eagles will look to trade Tanner McKee while he’s on the last year of his contract to try and cash-in on a draft pick they made that’s shown some promise.

If they do go that route, the team may select another young QB in the draft as someone they believe could take on the backup role come the 2027 season.

The pick they traded is the worst of their seventh-rounders in next year’s draft, not the one upcoming. They still figure to have at least one pick left in that round at the time of this trade.

He spent one season (last year) in Washington DC.

Now, he’ll compete for a spot in a deep cornerback room in Philadelphia as the oldest corner currently signed to the roster for next season.

Dalton spent nine seasons at the start of his career as the starter for the Bengals – well before the team invested anything at all into being competitive.

Joe Mixon and Tyler Boyd were perhaps his most effective support during that nine-year tenure.

Dalton spent one season in Dallas, one in New Orleans, and then the last three in Carolina after that.

He started seven games for the Panthers over the last few year, six of those games while the team was more interested in competing for the number one pick than the playoffs.

The 2026 Eagles will probably be the most talented team he’s played for, so it’ll be interesting to see how the Eagles value him (QB2 vs QB3) and how he does if he needs to see the field for one reason or another.
