Another tight end is in the building.

After previously extending Dallas Goedert, re-signing Grant Calcaterra, and bringing in Johnny Mundt, the team is still adding to the room.

On Thursday, the team agreed to a deal to add Stone Smartt to the group.

Smartt was an undrafted free agent who was a college QB at Old Dominion, but really played only one season at the position. He put up 1006 yards for the Monarchs in 2019, but didn’t play again with that amounting to one touchdown pass and six interceptions.

He signed with the Chargers as a tight end and managed to crack the roster.

He’s now played in four seasons (three with LA, one with the Jets) and has appeared in 53 games. He has 432 yards receiving during that time.

Beyond Goedert, there is no tight end on the roster that will for sure make the 53-man roster, so this could be a good opportunity for Smartt to find a way to some playing time.
