According to NHL insider David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Philadelphia Flyers are indeed expected to sign veteran forward Claude Giroux. The former Flyers captain would return to Philadelphia after spending the past several seasons with the Ottawa Senators, giving the organization a respected leader and one of the most beloved players in franchise history. While Giroux is no longer expected to carry a top-line offensive workload at this stage of his career, his leadership, versatility, and experience would provide a significant boost to a Flyers roster built around a young core looking to take the next step under general manager Danny Briere.

The Philadelphia Flyers are expected to explore a reunion with franchise icon Claude Giroux when NHL free agency opens at noon Wednesday. According to Pierre LeBrun, Philadelphia is expected to be among the teams attempting to sign the 38-year-old veteran center after his contract expired.

Giroux continues to prove he can still contribute at a high level. During the 2025-26 season, he recorded 49 points in 82 games while remaining one of the NHL’s premier faceoff specialists, winning an impressive 63.1 percent of his draws. His leadership, versatility, and ability to play in all situations could make him an ideal fit for a young Flyers roster looking to take another step forward.

Giroux spent the first 15 seasons of his NHL career in Philadelphia after being selected 22nd overall in the 2006 NHL Draft. He served as team captain from 2013 until he was traded to the Florida Panthers in 2022, finishing his Flyers tenure with 900 points (291 goals, 609 assists) in 1,000 regular-season games. Widely regarded as one of the greatest players in franchise history, a return to Philadelphia would be a fitting reunion for both the organization and its longtime captain.
