Latest Moves See Eagles Waive Johnny Wilson With Injury Designation

The Eagles a parting ways with a once-promising draft pick.

On Saturday, the Eagles waived receiver Johnny Wilson with an injury designation.

The move comes as a bit of a surprise as Wilson was seen as a real player for a receiver role on the team.

Now, the room drops to DeVonta Smith, Mekhai Lemon, and Dontayvion Wicks as the roster locks with Hollywood Brown, Darius Cooper, Elijah Moore, and Britain Covey seemingly fighting for the last two to three spots at the position.

The injury designation makes it seem like part of the problem is that Wilson has yet to get back to playing condition since last offseason’s injuries.

Brandon Hayes also joins the position group as a signing in the moves – the rookie had been in camp previously and was a bit of a kick return specialist at Southeastern Louisiana. He’ll need to impress at returns in camp to stick around, but is likely looking at a practice squad position at best this late into camp.

Tariq Castro-Fields heads to injured reserve in the moves. The former Penn State standout seems to have become a player that Fangio likes as he enters his third year with the team, but he’ll evidently not be healthy for the start of the season now.

With the open spot, the Eagles sign Zeke Correll. He was a UDFA out of Notre Dame last year and had a positive camp with the Vikings until an injury ended his season in the first preseason game. That makes the move essentially a flier on a player who had previously impressed coaches but really hasn’t gotten much of a chance to show that yet.
