Philadelphia, PA: Big-time college football would make its way to South Philadelphia as the Temple Owls would do battle with the 16th-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions.

Temple went into the game off a win over Rhode Island, while Penn State made their way to South Philly off a dominating win over Marshall.

How the game went

Temple won the toss and deferred to the 2^nd half. Penn State would get the ball to start the game.

On the 1st play of the game, the Nittany Lions would go deep for 56 yards – but the drive would stall and the Nittany Lions would get nothing as they missed a 33-yard FG.

The Owls could not take advantage of the missed FG as they would go 3-and-out.

The game’s 1^st turnover belonged to Temple as QB Jaxon Smolik was picked off, and #PennState returned it to the Owls’ 6-yard line.  The Nittany Lions would go for it on 4^th down & the Owls’ defense came up with the stop.

Later on, Temple QB Jaxon Smolik would have a nice fake that resulted in a 47-yard run. The Owls would get the scoring started in the 2nd quarter with a 24-yard FG for the early 3-0 lead following that run. The drive went 15 plays, 91 yards, 8:11.

The Nittany Lions would respond with a 31-yard FG to get the game tied at 3 with 6:51 left in the half. The drive went 9 plays, 62 yards, 5:09.

The game’s first touchdown would belong to Penn State as Rocco Becht connected with Benjamin Brahmer:

The touchdown drive would go 10 plays, 83 yards in 1:49 for the 10-3 lead and that would be the score at halftime.

Based on what we saw in the 1st half, could Temple keep making things hard for Penn State? Or would the Nittany Lions figure things out and go take control of the rest of the game?

The Owls got the ball to start the 3rd quarter. The drive would end with a FG attempt, but it would get BLOCKED.

The Nittany Lions would come out and make Temple pay for the blocked FG as they scored a touchdown via Chase Sowell from 16 yards out for a 17-3 lead.

Later on, Penn State would add a 39-yard FG & lead 20-3.

In the 4th, the Nittany Lions would ice the game as Benjamin Brahmer scored his 2nd touchdown of the game for a 27-3 lead:

Temple would find the end zone as Ajani Sheppard would run in a 3-yard TD but they failed to connect on the two point try.

A crowd of 61,714 would see the Nittany Lions be in a battle in the 1st half and pull away from the Owls in the 2nd half as they win this game 27-9.

There were a couple of times that the Owls had the Nittany Lions on the ropes and they just could not take advantage.

What is next:
For Temple, they will attempt to rebound from this loss as they head on the road for a battle with Toledo. As for Penn State, they will head home for a game against Buffalo.
