Penn State men’s ice hockey is breathing a sigh of relief as projected No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft Gavin McKenna is expected to be in the lineup after prosecutors dropped the felony aggravated assault charge stemming from an off-ice incident in State College.

McKenna, an 18-year-old freshman forward from Whitehorse, Yukon, has recorded 32 points (11 goals, 21 assists) in 24 games this season for the Penn State Nittany Lions, solidifying his status as a top NHL draft prospect.

The felony charge was withdrawn by Centre County prosecutors, though McKenna still faces lingering misdemeanor and summary counts related to the alleged altercation.
