The Philadelphia 76ers are continuing their front office overhaul, reportedly promoting former NBA All-Star Jameer Nelson to Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations under newly hired President of Basketball Operations Mike Gansey.
Nelson, a Chester native and Saint Joseph’s legend, had been viewed as a serious candidate for the franchise’s top basketball operations role before the Sixers ultimately hired Gansey away from the Cleveland Cavaliers. Now, Nelson is expected to become one of the organization’s top decision-makers as Philadelphia reshapes its leadership structure following the Daryl Morey era.
The move signals the Sixers’ growing trust in Nelson, who has steadily climbed the organizational ladder after previously serving with the Delaware Blue Coats and Sixers front office.
Reports have also indicated Elton Brand will no longer serve as General Manager, with a transition into another role within Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment expected.
