The Philadelphia Phillies have released veteran starting pitcher Taijuan Walker, ending his tenure with the club during the final year of his contract.

Walker, who signed a four-year, $72 million deal prior to the 2023 season, struggled mightily in 2026. Through his appearances this year, he posted a 1-4 record with a 9.13 ERA, prompting the Phillies to move on as they continue to evaluate their pitching staff.

Walker’s Phillies Tenure

Walker’s time in Philadelphia was marked by inconsistency after arriving with expectations of stabilizing the middle of the rotation.

  • 2023: 15-6, 4.38 ERA, 172.2 IP, 138 K
  • 2024: 7-7, 5.27 ERA, 130.0 IP, 96 K
  • 2025: 4-6, 6.50 ERA, 95.2 IP, 68 K

Despite a strong win total in his first season, underlying advanced metrics, and lack of postseason usage raised concerns. His performance declined over the following two years before bottoming out in 2026.
