The Philadelphia Phillies are suddenly at the center of growing speculation, as Bob Nightengale recently connected Alex Cora to the ball club as a potential future fit at manager.
The timing is notable. The Phillies have lost 15 of their last 18 games entering Monday, playing their worst stretch of baseball since the mid-to-late 1990’s, a brutal era for the franchise. For a team built to contend, the continued slide has only intensified scrutiny.
Much of the speculation centers on Dave Dombrowski, who shares a strong history with Cora from their time together in Boston. Around the league, that relationship is viewed as a key factor if a managerial change were ever considered.
For now, Rob Thomson remains in place, but expectations remain high. Nightengale’s report doesn’t signal an imminent move, but it does reflect how quickly things can shift and who could be next if they do.
