Cristopher Sánchez continues to pitch like a legitimate NL Cy Young contender and now he’s officially part of Phillies history.
The Phillies left-hander broke a franchise record that had stood since 1911 on Wednesday afternoon, surpassing Hall of Famer Grover Cleveland Alexander for the longest consecutive scoreless innings streak in team history. Sánchez pushed the streak to 44 2/3 innings during Philadelphia’s 3-0 win over the Padres at Petco Park.

What makes the accomplishment even more impressive is the consistency. Sánchez has now gone an entire month without allowing a run and has looked nearly untouchable during the stretch, overpowering hitters with elite command and devastating movement on his sinker and changeup.
Take a moment to consider what we’re watching.
Longest scoreless inning streaks by LHP since 1900:
Carl Hubbell – 45 1/3 IP, 1933
Doc White – 45 IP, 1904
Cristopher Sanchez – 44 2/3 IP, 2026**-And he’s still going!

The previous mark of 41 innings had survived for 115 years before Sánchez finally erased it from the record books. At just 29 years old, the Phillies ace is quickly building one of the most dominant pitching stretches the franchise has seen in generations.
