Hurts Out For Season, Birds Add Three To Injury Report In Loss

While you never want to just tank a season, particularly one that started with the talent that this team has, it appears that the Eagles will all but have to.

Of course, the players will still play to win, but it’s just not going to be most of the first team at this point and that only got worse with the reports that Jalen Hurts is officially out for the season as Ian Rapoport stated on Monday.

The latest reports are that the blood clots are also in Hurts’ lungs and that he was hospitalized before the London game until 4AM.

The report also states he didn’t sleep before the game because falling asleep was too risky – but playing in the NFL was apparently just fine.

Ideally, even if he could play at this point, the team wouldn’t allow him to as this is something that could be life-threatening.

Beyond that, it now means Tanner McKee and/or Cole Payton will see the field the rest of the year to prove what they can do and potentially play themselves into trade chips and/or new contracts.

The expectation is just not that the team will win anymore, however. NOT including Hurts, the injury report last week features 23 other players dealing with injuries and two additional on IR.

Then, in the game on Sunday, the Eagles lost Jordan Davis due to an ankle injury (X-rays reportedly negative), Nolan Smith to a concussion, and RB Carson Steele due to a shoulder injury.

The Eagles offense will now be expecting to operate without: RB1, RB2, RB3 and RB5 due to the Steele injury. They are down QB1 and RT1 retired. The offensive line has actually taken a step forward with Cam Jurgens traded, but there’s a lack of consistency with Dickerson on IR, Kendall being injured, and Tyler Steen being shaken up that has resulted in players moving all over the line throughout games the past few weeks.

Additionally, Johnny Wilson was lost before the season and DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wick have joined Hollywood Brown on the injury report for several weeks now as they and Dallas Goedert have been sporadically missing time.

The Eagles defense has been in better shape health-wise so far, but their OLB roles are thin with Smith now out with the concussion, A.J. Epenesa and Jalyx Hunt missing time, and Jonathan Greenard still working his way back from his preseason injury. Arnold Ebiketie has been listed on the injury reports with a should injury, but hasn’t missed much time.

On the back end, Michael Carter has missed time while the only other two safeties rostered at the start of the year (Andrew Mukuba and Marcus Epps) have also both appeared on the injury reports last week.

That leaves the Eagles short on bodies in general across at least five position groups and their injury report each week currently looks like half the roster is being listed, so it’ll be tough to expect any wins to come easily, if at all, going forward.
