Eagles Reportedly Bring In Giants Former First-Round Pick Evan Neal

The Eagles are taking a flier on a former first-rounder.

At this point in a season with so many injuries, there’s really no reason not to.

Reports surfaced on Thursday that the team had brought in Evan Neal for a workout per the transaction wire and he was subsequently spotted at team practice.

Neal was the seventh overall pick of the Giants in the 2022 NFL Draft. He appeared in just 29 games (27 starts) due to injuries and poor play since that time.

In the past, this would be a great project for Jeff Stoutland to rehabilitate a career, but we’ve really yet to see much promise from the new OL coaches beyond the surge from getting rid of a player who was a Pro Bowler under Stoutland and had regressed a ton since Stoutland had his power taken from him.

Note: Stoutland is still not signed with a team and could be signed by the Eagles immediately after a decision would be made to fire the head coach.

In any case, the Eagles are down multiple starters on the OL and have a few banged up backups that may or may not be able to play, so there’s not much harm in the team bringing in more bodies to try out.

The guess here is that Neal is likely signed to the practice squad rather than the active roster – teams do not appear to have been beating down the doors for his services.

Neal has spent time only with the Giants and Raiders, so that is a reason for optimism as neither franchise has developed a high-quality offensive linemen in a decade; Andrew Thomas is probably the closest to that either team has produced recently.

UPDATE: The Eagles have officially announced the signing to the practice squad.

Along with that, the team re-signs RB Jaydon Blue (who played a bit last week after being brought in) to the squad  as well as added LB Anfernee Orji.

TE E.J. Jenkins had been a special teamer for the Eagles, but with Ertz out of elevations from the practice squad, the guess here is that the team will look to get Jenkins to the practice squad after they sign Ertz to the 53-man roster.
