The experiment is over for Nick Castellanos in San Diego.
Just one night after returning to Philadelphia to face his former club, the San Diego Padres designated Castellanos for assignment, ending a brief and disappointing two-month run with the organization.
After signing with the Padres following his release from the Phillies over the winter, Castellanos never found consistent footing in San Diego’s lineup. In limited action with the Friars, the veteran slugger struggled to produce offensively, hitting just .164/.215/.279 during his stint with the club as his role steadily diminished.
Castellanos’ return to Citizens Bank Park earlier this week generated some attention due to his messy split, but now his return to Philadelphia also mark the end of his time in San Diego.
The former All-Star will likely look for another opportunity elsewhere should he clear waivers.
