The Philadelphia Phillies received devastating news earlier this week as veteran outfielder Adolis García is expected to miss the remainder of the 2026 season after suffering a torn right latissimus dorsi muscle while making a throw against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Phillies officially placed García on the 60-day injured list, ending what had been a disappointing but durable season in right field.

In response, the Phillies promoted top outfield prospect Gabriel Rincones Jr. from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Rincones, one of the organization’s top young bats, will get an opportunity to prove he belongs in the major leagues during a critical stretch of the season.

Philadelphia also moved quickly to add veteran depth, acquiring outfielder Derek Hill from the Chicago White Sox. Hill brings defensive versatility and experience, giving the Phillies another option as they attempt to patch together an outfield that has been hit hard by injuries.

With García sidelined, the Phillies are expected to rely heavily on a platoon of Rincones and Hill while continuing to evaluate the trade market ahead of the deadline. The loss of García creates another hole in an outfield that was already viewed as a potential area of concern entering the summer.
