LeBron James says his decision to join the Philadelphia 76ers wasn’t driven by money or convenience, but by one final opportunity to compete for an NBA championship.

After agreeing to a two-year deal with Philadelphia, James explained exactly why he chose the Sixers over every other option.

“I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time.”

The four-time NBA champion also revealed the mindset behind what he called the final decision of his legendary NBA career.

“This is my last decision. I’m not going for money. I’m not going for family. What am I really playing for at this point?

I still want to sacrifice. I still want to work. I still want to grind. I still want to compete, to win and to have a chance at the feeling of winning another championship.”

James now joins a Sixers roster featuring Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown and VJ Edgecombe, giving Philadelphia one of the deepest and most talented starting cores in the NBA. For James, it’s one last opportunity to chase championship No. 5… and he clearly believes Philadelphia gives him the best chance to do it.
