Philadelphia: As we get ready to close out the month of September, college football is in full swing & we had a very interesting non-conference battle in the FCS as the Penn Quakers would do battle with the Leigh Mountain Hawks from Franklin Field. Lehigh would come into the game undefeated & ranked 7th in the nation & off a win over Dartmouth, while Penn would play in front of the home fans for the 1st time after starting the season on the road with a win over Bucknell.

 

Penn would win the toss & got the ball to start the game & the drive would end with an INT. The scoring got started with Lehigh banging in a FG for the 3-0 lead & that would be the score at the end of the 1st quarter. If you’re the type who likes big football hits, well, this hit from Penn Joey Holliday in the 2nd quarter Sack was nice

After the 2-minute timeout of the 1st half, Lehigh would go for it on 4th down & they would get stopped

With the stop on 4th down, could the Quakers take advantage & the answers would be NO, as they would go 3-and-out. Lehigh would take a 3-0 lead into halftime; if you liked defense, that was your type of football.

The 3rd quarter would be the story of the game as Lehigh’s defense just made it very hard for the Quakers to get things going. Lehigh scored the game’s first touchdown for a 10-0 lead in the 3rd quarter & then a few minutes later, the Mountain Hawks got the ball back and added another touchdown to make it 17-0.

The Quakers only had 1 drive that got past midfield; nothing was working for the Quakers, and Lehigh had no issues moving the ball, as they made plays to extend their drives.

Could the Quakers get anything going on offense to attempt to get back into the game? The answer would be NO, as Lehigh’s defense would make it much harder for them and just did not have the answers. The Quakers would go into Lehigh’s side of the field with under 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter & it would result in a touchdown from Tommy Lafayette

As the clock hit zero, Lehigh was in control of the entire game as they took down Penn 20-7 to remain undefeated at 5-0 while Penn falls to 1-1 on the season.

What is next:
With the Loss, Penn is now 1-1 on the season & will be heading into Ivy League play on the road at Dartmouth & then a home battle with Howard on Oct 10; as for Lehigh, they head back into conference play undefeated against Fordham.
