The Eagles have made it offical.

On Monday, the team announced they had picked up the fifth-year options for Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith.

Both players are now under contract until after the 2027 season, meaning at least two more years in Philadelphia.

Carter was really a no brainer.

He is in line for a record-breaking extension and it’s a bit of a surprise the Eagles haven’t gotten that deal done now as they will want to get it done before any other DT signs a major deal or risk the price going up.

The expected value of his option is $27 million, which would already put him second among DTs in AAV under current values. Only Chris Jones has a higher AAV ($31.75 million).

Smith was a bit more of a question mark due to his lackluster production, particularly after seeming to take a major step back last seasons.

His option is worth around $14 million, which would put him roughly around 29th in AAV for edge rusher rankings.

It remains to be seen if longer-term extensions will get done, but often the Eagles use these options as a jumping off point for a new extension to sort of lower the AAV on the deal.

That said, Jordan Davis had his fifth-year option picked up last year and his new extension did not get done until this offseason.

The team could also still be looking at other young players now eligible for extensions, notably Moro Ojomo, Tyler Steen, Tank Bigsby, and Tanner McKee.
