New Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion met with the media for the first time on Thursday and made it clear that taking the job in Philadelphia was something he strongly desired from the beginning of the process.
Mannion explained that he interviewed virtually with the Eagles while attending the East-West Shrine Game earlier this offseason and immediately felt a connection with the organization’s leadership group, including Nick Sirianni, Howie Roseman, and Jeffrey Lurie.
“Felt like it was a great fit — great fit for me, great fit for my family, great fit just in terms of the football side of things here. Really excited.”
The first-year coordinator noted that his experiences as both an NFL quarterback and assistant coach helped prepare him for a larger role. Mannion added that he had long planned to enter coaching once his playing career ended.
He also praised the Eagles organization and explained why the opportunity stood out among NFL jobs.
“The first thing is the Eagles have been an outstanding organization top to bottom,” Mannion said. “You could just tell it was a great fit and it was in perfect alignment with how I view the game, as well.”
Mannion repeatedly emphasized the Eagles’ culture, attention to detail, and organizational alignment as major reasons why he believed Philadelphia was the right place for him.
