The Philadelphia 76ers officially hired former Cleveland Cavaliers executive Mike Gansey as the franchise’s new President of Basketball Operations, replacing Daryl Morey who was fired in May.

Gansey spent 15 years in Cleveland’s front office and was widely viewed as one of the NBA’s rising executives. During his tenure as Cavaliers GM, Cleveland became one of the Eastern Conference’s top contenders, helping build a roster centered around Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen.

From 2022-26, the Cavaliers recorded one of the NBA’s best overall records while establishing themselves as a consistent playoff team. Gansey also earned praise around the league for player development, roster construction and salary cap management.

The Sixers are hoping Gansey can help maximize the championship window around Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Paul George as Philadelphia enters a critical offseason.
