Editor’s Note (June 15): Since this article was originally published, both Kevin Weekes and Pierre LeBrun have reported that the Flyers and Dan Vladar are progressing toward a long-term extension expected to carry a cap hit in the mid-$5 million range
UPDATE (June 15, 2026):
What began as speculation earlier this month appears to be gaining significant momentum.
According to ESPN NHL insider Kevin Weekes, the Flyers and goaltender Dan Vladar are actively working toward a long-term contract extension that would keep the netminder in Philadelphia for years to come.
“Per sources, I’m told G Vladar and the Flyers are working towards closing in on a 5-year contract extension that’s likely to land in the mid-$5 million AAV range,” Weekes reported Sunday. Pierre LeBrun later confirmed the report, adding that while some details still need to be finalized, the framework of the deal is expected to fall within the five-to-six-year range with an annual cap hit in the mid-$5 million range. Because Vladar still has one year remaining on his current contract, any extension cannot be officially signed or announced until July 1.
The reported terms would represent a major commitment from general manager Danny Briere and the Flyers’ front office, signaling that the organization views Vladar as a foundational piece of its rebuild. After arriving in Philadelphia last offseason, Vladar responded with the best season of his NHL career, posting a 29-14-7 record, a .906 save percentage, and a 2.42 goals-against average while helping stabilize the Flyers’ crease.
If completed, the extension would provide Philadelphia with long-term certainty in goal while allowing the organization to continue developing its young core around a proven starting-caliber netminder.
The Philadelphia Flyers appear to be closing in on a long-term extension with goaltender Dan Vladar following his breakout 2025-26 season.
According to multiple reports, the expectation around the league is that Vladar and the Flyers will begin seriously ramping up extension talks once he becomes eligible to sign on July 1. Vladar currently has one season remaining on the two-year, $6.7 million contract he signed with Philadelphia in July 2025.
Insiders including David Pagnotta have indicated the Flyers are preparing to pay Vladar “starter money,” signaling the organization views him as its long-term answer in net. Current projections have a potential extension landing in the range of five years with an average annual value between $5.5-$6 million, putting the total deal somewhere around $25-$30 million.
There is still some internal debate surrounding the Flyers’ young goalie pipeline, but momentum continues trending heavily toward an extension getting done this summer for Vladar and Philadelphia.
