The Philadelphia Flyers made a significant move Tuesday, acquiring goaltender Joseph Woll and defenseman Simon Benoit from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for goaltender Samuel Ersson, defenseman Emil Andrae, and a 2026 third-round pick.

The deal represents another step in Danny Briere’s offseason effort to reshape the Flyers’ roster, particularly between the pipes.
Woll, 27, arrives in Philadelphia after showing flashes of becoming a reliable NHL starter in Toronto. While injuries have been a concern throughout his career, the Flyers are betting on his upside and ability to provide a stronger option in the backup role than Ersson. If healthy, Woll could push for significant playing time and give Philadelphia a more stable tandem in net.
Benoit, meanwhile, adds size, physicality, and defensive reliability to the Flyers’ blue line.
The move also comes as reports continue to indicate the Flyers are nearing a long-term contract extension with goaltender Dan Vladar. With Vladar expected to sign a new deal in the coming weeks, Philadelphia’s goaltending picture is becoming much clearer heading into the 2026-27 season.
While losing Andrae and a draft pick carries some risk, the Flyers are clearly prioritizing immediate NHL help as they continue building toward a deeper playoff run.
